The Aeroseal duct work sealing system was invented in 1994 by
Dr. Mark Modera, a scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory, a campus of the University of California in Berkeley.
The U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. EPA, the California
Institute for Energy Efficiency, and the Electric Power Research
Institute (EPRI) all funded the research. Patents for the
Aeroseal sealing system were issued in 1996, 1999 and 2003.
In March 1996, Dr. Modera started Aeroseal, Inc. and began
licensing the duct work improvement technology through franchises
in January 1999. In August 2001, Carrier, a
United
Technologies company, acquired Aeroseal Inc.
Today, Carrier Aeroseal LLC, a subsidiary of
Carrier
Corporation, is headquartered at Indianapolis, IN.

Aeroseal Duct Work Studies
Field studies were performed around the country to test
and improve Aeroseal's sealing capability on all types of duct
work systems.
Leaks sealed with Aeroseal are guaranteed for 10 years. A
computer program was developed to quickly test duct work systems
for leakage, room air flow problems, combustion safety, air
temperature and return air performance. The computer program
also controls the machine during sealing and tracks and documents
the process in every house. Aeroseal has performed duct work technology
demonstration projects for many of the nation's utilities
including PG&E, PEPCO, FPL, SMUD, SDG&E, Austin Energy,
Reliant Energy, and College Station Utilities.
Aeroseal Duct Work Improvements
Aeroseal began licensing its duct work improvement technology
in January 1999 to a limited number of experienced HVAC contractors
in each market area. Aeroseal trains and certifies the duct
work and HVAC contractors
to use the computerized duct system diagnostics and the aerosol
duct work sealing technology. Our customers receive a computer analysis
of the condition of the air ducts before work starts. When work
is completed, they receive a certificate stating that their
duct work system has been properly sealed.
